Catrina’s abstract works are a visceral and sensory response to the raw West Coast energy where she resides.
Creating atmospheric scapes, her work delves into the realm of mapping, in an abstract manner, and resonates with her profound connection to the natural world.

Her work is both a response to the impermanent nature of the coastline and a fascination with how an abstract painting unfolds.

Lloyd's use of heavily diluted paints and inks lends a fluidity to her work, mirroring the ever-changing nature of the coastline itself.
She embraces mark-making as a means of expression, allowing the interplay of colour and technique to guide her creative process.
There is a dynamic play between the balance of colour, texture, opacity, translucency, and the energy of every gesture.

Catrina always searches for the unconscious response, with a desire
to let the painting emerge, allowing the nature of the paint itself to dictate the work.

Lloyd studied Spatial Design at AUT and worked in the Design, Interior and Fabric industries. She is largely self-taught as a painter and was drawn to the West Coast to drink in its raw energy and paint.

“It is the impermanent nature of the coastline that draws me in. Where two seas meet, as the lines of the sand overlap with the watermarks of the sea, changing every moment.
Being part of this environment is like a kind of therapy that allows what was stagnant to now move.
My work is a response to this ever-changing energy and how it helps us to move more fluidly through our internal selves the more we connect with it”
